Blog: Why Architects are embracing 3D technology

Why Architects are embracing 3D technology

The most successful architects understand that, for most clients, buildings serve a specific purpose. A good architect therefore takes the time to understand what the client is trying to achieve with the building and then designs a structure to meet those needs. But this client centric approach to buildings doesn’t stop during the design process; it extends to the delivery of buildings.

Construction is a collaborative process, involving every stakeholder, from contractors to engineers and building owners. This is exactly why architects, and in fact the AEC industry in general, have begun to recognize the value of bringing digital innovation...

NavVis tech makes it easy to use BIM for Facility Management

BIM (building information modeling) has become a buzzword in every industry that designs, constructs and operates buildings – and with good reason. I regularly speak to Facility Managers who agree that a highly detailed database of building assets would be incredibly valuable for operations and maintenance. But when I ask if they are actually using BIM, most people I speak to admit that they are not.

When I ask why they have not started using BIM yet, I usually get one of two answers: no one on their team has been trained in using BIM software; or they tell me...

New EU energy policies highlight the need for better building data

The European Union has recently announced an ambitious strategy to transition to nearly zero-energy buildings across member states (Policies to Enforce the Transition to Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings in Europe). This new strategy is the latest EU policy targeting the environmental impact of buildings (see also recent amendments to the directive on the energy performance of buildings) and will require further action by building operators to save energy and comply with CO² emission standards. While these ambitions are admirable, they have also left building owners and operators scrambling for an implementation solution ahead of the looming deadlines.
