NavVis VLX 2 brings more versatility to reality capture

NavVis announces the launch of NavVis VLX 2, a mobile mapping system optimized for indoor and outdoor reality capture workflows.

NavVis, the market leader in mobile mapping and reality capture, today announces the launch of NavVis VLX 2, a new iteration of our flagship mobile mapping system optimized for scanning both indoor and outdoor environments.

With multiple quality-of-life improvements based on the needs of our customers, NavVis VLX 2nd generation will enable more professionals in the surveying and AEC industries to get their reality capture projects done for a greater variety of projects – with no loss in speed or precision.

“Previously, we positioned our devices for indoor scanning,” says Georg Schroth, Chief Technology Officer at NavVis, “but since we launched the original NavVis VLX, we realized the need of our customers to mature the device towards real outdoor readiness.”

“They asked, and we’ve delivered,” he continues. “With NavVis VLX 2 they can go anywhere the project requires, whether it’s a construction site or a refinery, a factory or an office.”

Get it done with NavVis VLX 2

NavVis VLX 2 is more robust in outdoor environments and busy locations like construction sites. You needn't be concerned about an unexpected shower of rain, and the work doesn’t have to stop if there’s dust at the location.

NavVis VLX 2 also features a carbon-fiber frame that is strong and light, reducing overall weight while still withstanding the rigors of fieldwork. Added grips and redesigned shoulder pads make the device more comfortable to handle and operate than ever before. And with a new design transport case, NavVis VLX can be checked as luggage for air travel without worry.

For reliable, survey-grade accuracy, NavVis VLX 2 is powered by precision SLAM technology that's entirely in a class of its own. The algorithm has been improved to make it more robust, especially in outdoor environments with plants and trees. And with regular System Software updates – just like the original NavVis VLX – users will continue to benefit from accuracy improvements now and in the future.

With these new features, users are better able to generate high-quality point clouds of buildings and assets. Seamlessly integrated with NavVis IVION, our platform for spatial data, customers have the foundations of a digital twin for smart collaboration and decision making, closing the gap between the physical and digital world.
