Conceptual planning

A shared source of truth for smarter conceptual planning – built on real-world data.

Efficient and sustainable layouts for manufacturing or construction projects require thorough conceptual planning. Accurate reality capture data and collaborative visualization enable faster and smarter design decisions based on real-world conditions.

Explore the possibilities

Understand spatial context with accurate reality capture data

Explore existing site conditions using high-resolution 360° panoramas, accurate point clouds, and 2D floor plans. Use digital twins to analyze spatial relationships, mark observations, and document insights. These visual tools provide the essential context needed to design feasible layouts and align teams early in the planning phase.

Import and align BIM models in a real-world context for design verification and clash detection

Import 3D models into NavVis IVION and align them with reality capture data using predefined coordinate systems. Visually validate model accuracy, geometry, and spatial fit within the as-is environment. Identify clashes, verify LOD compliance, and compare the 3D model to existing conditions using high-quality point clouds, 360° panoramas, and 2D floor plans to ensure feasibility of your design intent before execution.

Measure and validate layout concepts with real-world data

Ground layout concepts in real-world conditions and operational workflows. Use the Mark & Measure tool in NavVis IVION to capture precise dimensions, categorize areas (e.g., workflow paths, utility zones, or safety perimeters), and analyze operator or material movement efficiency. Export data using standard formats such as .csv and dxf, for seamless integration with third-party CAD/BIM solutions.

Share deep links to streamline concept review

Share specific design perspectives, points of interest, measurements, or layout proposals by sharing deep links. These links guide stakeholders directly to an exact location of a digital twin – eliminating ambiguity and guesswork. Ideal for distributed planning teams, deep links accelerate feedback cycles and enable fast, contextual collaboration during early-stage planning.

Crop & download point cloud data for targeted planning zones

Isolate and extract specific sections of sites – such as production areas, machine zones, or floor segments – for focused planning. Download cropped scan data in various formats (e.g., .e57, .rcs, .las) for use in CAD, BIM, or simulation tools. Easily work on high-priority areas without exporting the entire site's dataset.

NavVis IVION supports the following point cloud formats:

80% reduced costs for redesign
5% less planning errors
40% reduction in concept verification time

“Thanks to NavVis IVION, we reduced the planned downtime by 33% based on accurate planning beforehand.”

Frequently asked questions

This brief FAQ covers common questions for both new and existing users. For more detailed information, existing customers can explore our Knowledge Base, or new visitors can contact our team directly.

How can I take measurements in NavVis IVION?

Use the Mark & Measure tool to take precise point-to-point distances directly within 360° panoramas or point clouds. Within the tool, you can enable the 3D crop view, orthographic projection or the magnifier maximize accuracy.

How can I use the measurements in downstream workflows/third-party tools?

Measurements can be embedded in points of interest (POIs) and exported via API or ACC Connector. They can also be exported to machine-readable file formats like .dxf or .csv and imported into third-party planning or CAD tools.
